“MOTTO: I am more that just enough, I was Born to Rock!”
The Guyanese Girls Rock Young Women Leadership Academy empowers high school girls between the ages of 14 and 18 to become the next generation of global leaders. Through a series of constructive activities, our young women will be given a unique opportunity to learn from and build trusting relationships with female professionals in positions of leadership. Our inaugural session comprising of 12 young women will be held every other Saturday at the Queens Borough Central Library located at 89-11 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11432
AREAS OF FOCUS
This bi-weekly Saturday program is dedicated to addressing some of the common issues that affect adolescent girls utilizing a group mentoring model. During each session, young women will engage in fun and energized discussions facilitated by experienced mentors and youth ambassadors on topics such as body image, self-esteem, bullying, compassion, friendship, dating, peer pressure, role model, substance abuse and much more. Mentor will also help students to define individual goals and ways to achieve those goals.
In partnership with industry professionals this life skills initiative aims to raise awareness and educate our young women in the following areas.
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend other youth-related activities and conferences with their peers.
The “Day In The Life of” Site Visits involves tours to corporation and businesses to promote career exploration. During these visits we aim broaden the girls’ horizons by exposing them to the working world of women in positions of leadership, ownership and power.
