“MOTTO: I am more that just enough, I was Born to Rock!”
The Guyanese Girls Rock Young Women Leadership Academy is dedicated to empowering high school girls between the ages of 14 and 18 to become the next generation of global leaders. Our program spans the length of the New York academic school year and runs bi-weekly from September to May. Saturdays sessions take place at our Queens site.
AREAS OF FOCUS
Our program is dedicated to addressing some of the common issues that affect adolescent girls. During our weekly sessions, students engage in fun and energize group discussions facilitated by experienced mentors and youth ambassadors on topics such as body image, self-esteem, bullying, compassion, friendship, dating, peer pressure, role model, substance abuse and much more.
In partnership with industry professionals this life skills initiative aims to raise awareness and educate our young women in the following areas.
Occasionally, participants will have the opportunity to attend out youth related activities and conferences with their peers.
The “Day In The Life of..” Site Visits involves tours to corporation and businesses to promote career exploration. During these visits our young women are exposed to the working world of women in positions of leadership, ownership and power.
Students have the opportunity to learn about different sectors and professions, and engage in Q&A sessions with positive role models.
If you are a female business owner or hold a position of leadership and would like host our young women, please contact us HERE.
During the Spring and Summer school recess, we will facilitate outings to places of interest, e.g. museum, movies, historic sites and other culture events.
Application for Fall 2017 opens at the end of August.
